About The Position

The Loan/TA Specialist is responsible for the oversight of the effective provision of Technical Assistance (TA) to potential and current borrowers of Thrive Community Lending. This includes providing TA via one-on-one guidance, business classes, and microenterprise coaches matched with borrowers. The Loan/TA Specialist also processes loan requests, coordinates portfolio review processes, and maintains Thrive Community Lending’s loan portfolio in coordination with the organization’s annual and strategic program goals. This position processes loan requests for underwriting and presentation to the ED, loan committee, and board (as needed) for approval; analyzes borrower and guarantor financial and organizational information; monitors the performance of loans and borrowers; coordinates modifications and refinances for current borrowers; stewards ongoing borrower relationships; follows up on lending inquiries and conducts due diligence with prospective borrowers; and evaluates lending opportunities to recommend for underwriting or refer to related resources. The role involves providing business consulting services/technical assistance to improve the financial capacity of prospective loan applicants and existing borrowers, which can be done one-on-one, in group sessions, or through volunteer microenterprise coaches. The specialist will also promote loan services and products, gather client data for loan decisions, provide guidance on loan products, compile loan packets for review, consult with leadership on loan applications, determine closing details, maintain borrower files, monitor borrower health, assist with delinquent accounts, collect impact data, and prepare reports. Additionally, the role supports the Executive Director on various projects.

Requirements

  • Primary residence within the state of Georgia, Alabama, or Tennessee, with strong preference for residency in Georgia. Exceptions may be possible based on residence proximity to a metropolitan area where Inspiritus provides services.
  • Must be able to travel to meet with borrowers and conduct site visits and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Experience working multi-culturally and/or with foreign-born populations is required.
  • Detail–oriented, with ability to work independently and with a team is required.
  • Fluency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and superior analytical skills are required.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required.
  • Must possess the ability to meet performance goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Small business lending and knowledge of community development lending is preferred.
  • Formal credit training and strong financial skills, including ability to develop and interpret financial statements are preferred.
  • Hands-on experience working with small business owners is desired.
  • Fluency in language(s) commonly spoken by refugee populations is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provide business consulting services/technical assistance to improve the financial capacity of prospective loan applicants and existing borrowers.
  • Provision of TA services will be made one-on-one, in group sessions, and/or through volunteer microenterprise coaches assigned to refugee entrepreneurs.
  • Promote loan services and products and business services resources to prospective borrowers, community organizations, and other community partners.
  • Gather data necessary about clients and their businesses (or proposed businesses) to ensure that an informed decision is made regarding a loan application and the prospective borrower’s creditworthiness and probability of repayment.
  • Provide guidance to prospective borrowers on loan products and specific requirements associated with each loan product.
  • Compile and send “loan packet” to consulting underwriter for review and recommendation of approval or denial of loan application.
  • Consult Exec. Dir. and Loan Committee, if appropriate, to make final decision about loan applications and draft/send loan commitment letters to approved borrowers.
  • Determine closing dates, fees, and conditions in coordination with the Exec. Dir. and assist with loan closing functions, including preparation of loan documents.
  • Maintain accurate files of current borrowers.
  • Actively monitor borrower's financial and organizational health, recommend action and restructure loans when necessary while providing accompanying TA services to address challenges.
  • Work closely with borrowers with delinquent loan accounts to help them find a method of repayment in order to avoid defaulting on the loan and provide TA services to address delinquency.
  • Assist with impact data collection and reporting on borrowers.
  • Prepare internal and external reports as required for executive management and Board of Directors.
  • Support Executive Director on various projects and assignments.
  • Provide support and guidance to volunteer microenterprise coaches as they are matched with refugee entrepreneurs.
