About The Position

First Hawaiian Bank is currently seeking a Loan Recovery Officer to join the team in the Loan Recovery Department. In this role, the Loan Recovery Officer plays a vital role in managing charged-off loans and overseeing the Collection Attorney and Bankruptcy functions. As a primary collector for high-balance accounts, you will apply your expertise in collections, loan recovery, and bankruptcy administration to drive successful outcomes. In addition to managing relationships with Collection Attorneys and ensuring compliance with policies and legal requirements, you will provide guidance on bankruptcy matters and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve recovery objectives while maintaining exceptional customer service and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, related field; or equivalent work experience required
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in collections, consumer banking, compliance or related field required
  • Strong reporting and data analysis skills, including the ability to prepare portfolio, recovery, vendor performance, and productivity reports
  • Ability to analyze account-level financial information and recovery trends to support collection strategies, settlement recommendations and recovery decisions
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with borrowers, attorneys, management and business partners
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with outside legal counsel and legal service providers across multiple jurisdictions
  • Experience utilizing legal and bankruptcy research systems and court filing systems including Pacer, Electronic Case Files (ECF), Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA website), Kelley Blue Book (KBB)
  • Strong case management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands and consistently meet court, regulatory, and operational deadlines
  • Ability to review legal pleadings, bankruptcy filings, court documents and recovery-related documentation and make sound recommendations regarding appropriate recovery actions
  • Ability to prepare, review, and submit legal, bankruptcy, and recovery-related documentation in accordance with court requirements and established deadlines
  • Able to exercise sound judgement and discretion when handling confidential, sensitive, and legally privileged information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite of applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in collection, recovery, loan servicing and core banking systems used to manage portfolio performance, recovery activities, and reporting

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Business Administration
  • 2 years of work experience in management of collections or consumer banking compliance preferred
