About The Position

The Loan Closer supports the loan closing process by coordinating and preparing accurate closing documentation for personal loans, small business loans, and routine commercial loans as assigned. This role works closely with Loan Officers, Relationship Managers, Branch Staff, third-party vendors, and borrowers to help ensure standard closing requirements are completed, loan files are organized, and closings are completed accurately and timely. This position is responsible for supporting a positive customer experience while following established closing procedures, Bank policy, documentation standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. The Loan Closer serves as a closing resource for routine transactions and escalates complex loan structures, collateral concerns, documentation exceptions, or policy questions to senior staff or management as appropriate.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to identify and escalate documentation or closing concerns.
  • Working knowledge of loan documentation, collateral requirements, and loan closing processes for personal, small business, and routine commercial loans.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe PDF, and related loan systems.
  • Associate’s degree desired or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of loan closing, loan processing, loan documentation, or related financial institution experience preferred.
  • Experience with personal loans, small business loans, and routine commercial loan documentation preferred.
  • Knowledge of loan documentation systems, core banking systems, or loan origination systems preferred.
  • This position will comply with all BSA compliance laws and regulations including the Bank’s BSA policy and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating the closing process for personal loans, small business loans, and routine commercial loans assigned from approval through funding and post-closing follow-up.
  • Responsible for reviewing loan approvals, closing checklists, and standard documentation requirements to prepare accurate loan documentation in accordance with Bank policy and approved loan terms.
  • Responsible for reviewing standard due diligence documentation, including but not limited to title work, UCC searches, flood determinations, insurance documentation, payoff statements, and business entity documentation; provide support in ordering due diligence, as necessary.
  • Responsible for confirming that required checklist items, documentation, and standard compliance items are completed prior to closing or funding, escalating exceptions or unresolved items as needed.
  • Responsible for preparing loan documents and closing packages for new personal loans, small business loans, and routine commercial loan transactions as assigned.
  • Responsible for coordinating loan closings with borrowers, Branch Staff, Loan Officers, Relationship Managers, title companies, attorneys, and third-party vendors for assigned routine transactions.
  • Responsible for assisting with outstanding items and supporting resolution of documentation, collateral, insurance, and title-related matters, escalating complex or non-standard issues to senior staff or management.
  • Accountable for ensuring loan files are properly organized, complete, and accurately imaged or saved in the appropriate loan file system.
  • Responsible for maintaining closing checklists, tracking outstanding items, and communicating status updates to internal partners.
  • Responsible for managing an assigned routine closing pipeline while prioritizing workload to support accurate and timely closings according to service level expectations.
  • Responsible for supporting Loan Operations projects, process improvement initiatives, and cross-training efforts as needed.
  • Accountable for compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and supporting the Bank’s risk mitigation framework.
