About The Position

The Loader Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a front-end loader to perform cold slag/skull loading, truck loading, stockpiling, and railcar indexing activities. This role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, situational awareness, and effective communication to support safe and productive site operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate front-end loader to dig, move, load, and stockpile cooled slag, skulls, and other designated materials.
  • Load haul trucks and ensure proper load distribution without exceeding weight limits.
  • Load cooled slag/skulls into trucks using proper communication methods (radio, supervisor coordination, or visual signals).
  • Ensure materials are dumped into correct stockpiles at minimum dump height to reduce emissions.
  • Maintain berms of pot skulls/slag to prevent unintended railcar movement.
  • Monitor piles for undercutting and maintain safe dump practices.
  • Follow all safe driving rules and maintain awareness of ground conditions and surroundings.
  • Perform proper pre-shift inspections for each piece of equipment operated.
  • Inspect tracks for debris or damage before movement; clear debris as required.
  • Communicate with designated spotter and ensure the spotter remains in a safe position at all times.
  • Conduct a full 360° walkaround before moving equipment after periods of inactivity.
  • Remain aware of other mobile equipment in the area to prevent collisions.
  • Use radios for continuous communication regarding location, direction, and purpose.
  • Maintain constant awareness of pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
  • Follow all PPE requirements: helmet, safety glasses, hi-viz vest, metatarsal boots, and job-specific gloves.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall team operations
