About The Position

This person is accountable for the task completed according to procedure. The primary should be present for Assist activities unless prior approval gained or a different critical activity is being performed. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States. Austin Industries is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.
  • A valid TWIC Card and Driver's License.
  • Employees must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and use hands and fingers to perform assigned duties.
  • Positions may require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds, working at elevations, on uneven surfaces, or in confined spaces.
  • Employees must possess sufficient visual, hearing, communication, and motor skills to safely perform job responsibilities.
  • Employees must be able to read, comprehend, and follow safety procedures, work instructions, and company policies; exercise sound judgment; solve problems; maintain attention to detail; effectively manage stress; and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Work may be performed in industrial and construction environments with exposure to weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, dust, fumes, moving equipment, vibration, and other site-specific hazards.
  • Employees must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and meet all customer, site, regulatory, medical, and fitness-for-duty requirements applicable to the position.
  • Must be able to perform all job duties while maintaining a constant commitment to safety, quality, and productivity expectations.

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ months experience in an Industrial setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Hopper car inspection
  • Keep the 600-area walking working surfaces clean and free of pellets and debris including.
  • Keep the areas clean inside and outside of silos, tracks, and both levels of the loading sheds.
  • Cleaning hopper cars.
  • Water wash cars for shop work.
  • Minor Maintenance on Hopper cars requiring use of grinders or impact tools.
  • Empty scrap hoppers in 600 area.
  • Clean scalperators – externally only.
  • Empty fines socks.
  • Keep trash cans level low enough to safely lift.
  • Place Operation Clean Sweep label on cars, use of Windex to ensure stickers are secured to car surface without falling.
  • Empty Purge Bins.
  • Inspect and clean South API.
  • Take pictures of any defects found on hopper cars during inspection.
  • Notify by E-mail Raw Materials Coordinator, Lab Specialist, Shift Supervisor and Logistics of any defect founds with pictures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
