About The Position

PARR is a leading supplier of homebuilding materials, solutions, and services, catering to professional home builders of all sizes. We are known for our Legendary Service and quality products. The Load Checker plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and safety of all outgoing orders, including deliveries and large will call orders. This position is vital for maintaining our commitment to "on time and in full" deliveries and upholding our mission of Legendary Service Through Teamwork. The Load Checker reports directly to the General Manager and collaborates with Load Builders, Receiving Coordinators, Location Supervisors, Customer Service Employees, and Drivers.

Requirements

  • OSHA Certified Forklift license (training provided)
  • Ability to speak, write, and read English required
  • Knowledge of how loads need to be properly labeled, protected, and kept damage-free
  • Ability to tally correct lineal footage totals on orders
  • Ability to read and interpret "picking tickets" and invoices
  • Ability to load and unload materials in a safe manner
  • Must be able to operate forklift, banding machine, tin snips, tape measure, power saws, hand truck, pallet jack, re-fueling stations, and all other equipment necessary for the job
  • Ability to utilize all appropriate safety gear required for this position
  • Must be able to operate personal computer, smartphone, scanner, and all other equipment necessary for the job
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 90 pounds and carry objects 50 feet
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to drive a company vehicle when necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year of load building experience preferred
  • Two years of load building and/or yard/warehouse experience preferred
  • Two years of experience working with dimensional lumber, panel products, and other building materials preferred
  • Knowledge of receiving and inventory control principles, practices, and protocols preferred
  • Ability to read grades of lumber and other materials preferred
  • Acceptable driving record preferred

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently check loads for all orders, ensuring 100% accuracy of properly tagged materials.
  • Verify correct type, size, and quantity of materials for each order.
  • Ensure proper sequencing of materials in loads (e.g., pressure-treated materials on top of underfloor loads, sheeting on the bottom of framing loads).
  • Confirm that all goods are sellable and free from damage.
  • Identify and help correct errors to save time and resources.
  • Ensure loads are built safely and accurately by correctly reading "pick tickets" and invoices.
  • Help identify damaged material.
  • Ensure that appropriate paperwork is complete and scanned as per company policy.
  • Maintain yard cleanliness during the course of work.
  • Follow through with the team to make system corrections when mistakes are made.
  • Perform daily safety audits of forklifts and promptly report any malfunctioning equipment.
  • Assist with the prevention of material damage.
  • Identify opportunities for best practices in handling and packaging of products for adverse weather conditions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Work outside in the lumberyard in all weather conditions.
