About The Position

The Load Builder is responsible for planning, organizing, and optimizing daily route loads to ensure safe, efficient, and customer-focused deliveries throughout the PFG Chicago distribution network. This role works closely with Transportation, Warehouse Operations, Selectors, and Delivery Drivers to maximize trailer cube utilization, maintain product integrity, and improve route efficiency while supporting on-time customer deliveries. The Load Builder uses routing and load planning tools to create and manage trailer configurations that promote safe loading practices, driver productivity, and efficient unloading at customer locations.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
Strong analytical and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to understand route structures, trailer capacity, and stop sequencing.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and Word).
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced distribution environment.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Ability to work collaboratively with warehouse and transportation teams.
Commitment to safety, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
Ability to walk throughout warehouse and dock areas frequently during the workday.
Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, and climb as required.
Ability to work in various warehouse environments, including refrigerated and freezer areas.
Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check

Nice To Haves

Previous warehouse, transportation, logistics, route planning, or foodservice distribution experience preferred.
Experience with load planning, routing software, or warehouse management systems is a plus.
Knowledge of foodservice delivery operations preferred.

Responsibilities

Utilize transportation and warehouse management systems to build and optimize daily delivery loads for PFG Chicago routes.
Coordinate with Transportation, Warehouse, and Routing teams to ensure trailers are loaded in the safest and most efficient sequence based on route stop order, product characteristics, and customer delivery requirements.
Review load plans to maximize trailer capacity utilization while maintaining compliance with weight distribution, product segregation, and food safety standards.
Analyze route and trailer configurations to improve delivery efficiency, reduce product damage, and minimize driver handling time at customer locations.
Communicate daily with warehouse selectors, loaders, dispatchers, and delivery drivers to address load concerns and implement corrective actions as necessary.
Investigate and resolve loading issues, including product placement, weight distribution, route sequencing, and service concerns.
Monitor trailer readiness and assist with load quality audits to ensure delivery accuracy and operational excellence.
Support Transportation leadership in identifying opportunities to improve route productivity, load efficiency, and customer service performance.
Assist warehouse operations as needed to meet daily shipping and service goals.
Maintain load planning documentation and ensure accurate records are completed in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Adhere to all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, DOT regulations, and food safety standards.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
