About The Position

The Back Server will collaborate with all areas of the restaurant to help take the Food and Beverage department and guest experience to the next level. The focus of this role will be to serve as a link between the guests and their server. This role will contribute by supporting all aspects of the Front of House service to maintain The Dewberry standard. The Dewberry is a 2022 Condé Nast Traveler Gold List award recipient for Best Hotel in the World, located in the heart of downtown Charleston, bordering Marion Square, just steps from the shopping and dining on King Street, Museum Mile and The Gaillard Center. Offering 153 thoughtfully appointed rooms, world-class service and unparalleled views, The Dewberry occupies the former L. Mendel Rivers (circa 1964) federal building and pays homage to Charleston’s century architectural splendor.   • Detailed knowledge of all state and federal safety standards related to food service
  • Ability to multi-task and complete assigned tasks to ensure a smooth service

  • Ability to bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, stretch, or reach
  • Ability to work in a hot, humid, and noisy environment
  • Ability to push or pull up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Assist servers in their set-up, service, and clean-up tasks
  • Assist bartenders and servers with making espresso/coffee drinks
  • Deliver food trays from kitchen to tables
  • Pull liquor from storage room based on bartender requisitions
  • Make syrups for bar service
  • Remove soiled dishes and empty glassware from table to the dishwashing area
  • Collect soiled linen from dining room; transfer to the linen pick-up area
  • Polish glassware and silverware for service
  • Attend pre-service training (line-up meeting)
  • Retain detailed knowledge of all food items sold
  • Move tables and chairs as needed for the next guest
  • Re-set tables after a guest has dined
  • Clean up spills, broken service ware, and other similar problems during service with minimal disruption to guests
  • Dispose of waste as needed and after service
  • Clean and break down back area after service and re-set for the next day
  • Maintain safe and sanitary service stations
  • Ensure all guest and service areas are kept clean, organized, and sanitary
