About The Position

This position involves humanely placing live birds on an overhead conveyor line by manually hanging both of their legs in empty shackles, without damaging the poultry and in compliance with animal welfare guidelines. The role requires participation as a team member, adherence to Simmons' operating systems principles and objectives, and performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives. The work environment is a plant setting with specific physical demands and requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Requirements

• Be able to efficiently work in a plant environment.
• Regularly required to stand, reach and move about the facility.
• Lift up to 15 lbs, repetitively, above shoulders at a rate of up to 25 birds per minute.
• Strenuous physical effort required.
• Constant standing, simple and power grasping of the hands, fine manipulation/feeling with the hands, reaching at, below shoulder level, above shoulder level, repetitive motion of the shoulders, arms and hands, light lifting/carrying, use of vision.
• Use of sanitizable footwear, gloves, apron, hearing protection, hair net(s) and other protective equipment as needed or required.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred experience working around machinery.
• Working knowledge of a processing facility.

Responsibilities

• Manually hang live chickens on shackles by both legs, ensuring no damage to the bird.
• Rotate positions to equalize job responsibilities in the area.
• Comply with all policies or rules established by Simmons on Animal Welfare, including attendance in annual Animal Welfare training.
• Participate as a member of the team, fostering strong cohesiveness and coordinating work to ensure best practices.
• Attend appropriate team meetings.
• Accept responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
• Be familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understand the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems.
• Consider the impact of individual actions on the systems and take responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
• Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
