About The Position

Weil is seeking a Litigation Support Attorney to join its Administrative Staff team. This role provides legal expertise and guidance to attorneys on California litigation docketing, court rules, and procedures related to court functions and calendaring. The attorney will be responsible for legal analysis of complex procedural issues, reviewing filings for form and procedural content, and advising Litigation Departments on court rules, civil procedure, filing, and deadline calculation for Weil’s California offices. Highly skilled Administrative Staff are crucial to assisting attorneys in meeting client needs and contributing to the overall success of the Firm.

Requirements

  • Proficient in searching and retrieving information from court-related databases (e.g. Courtlink, PACER, eLaw, CourtAlert) and other on-line sources of case information.
  • Possess excellent customer service, communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in using Westlaw, Lexis Nexis, and other research platforms.
  • J.D. required.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in a large law firm or judicial setting equivalent.
  • Bar admission required.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Compulaw, eDockets, CourtAlert or equivalent highly preferable.
  • Law firm or Law Clerk / Attorney in State and/or Federal court experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain California litigation docket and calendar.
  • Ensure compliance and record all incoming and outgoing California documents in docket database and record procedural due dates.
  • Responsible for electronic filings protocols in assigned courts.
  • Must be familiar with all California filing rules, procedures and judge's individual practices.
  • Keep current on industry standards and determine if procedures need to be updated.
  • Manage all case-specific information in California.
  • Monitor case progress in California courts, obtain decisions and orders, obtain docket updates and communicate case status changes to responsible attorneys.
  • Liaise with court personnel.
  • Respond to procedural inquiries and questions, including California court research at direction of attorneys and staff.
  • Use research platforms to provide attorneys with high level research with respect to procedural and strategic issues.
  • Any additional responsibilities as required by management.
