About The Position

The Litigation Paralegal role at Joel J. Kirkpatrick P.C. is a pivotal position designed to elevate the firm’s capacity to handle increasing caseloads while maintaining a high standard of client service. This role is designed to take full ownership of discovery and litigation preparation, allowing the attorney to focus on hearings, strategy, and client advocacy. As the firm scales, this paralegal will play a crucial role in helping improve and scale the firm’s operational processes through AI-enabled workflows, ensuring precise and timely legal work. This is not a traditional paralegal role, but rather a hybrid position combining litigation support, legal operations, and AI-enabled workflow optimization.

Requirements

  • 3–7 years of hands-on litigation experience, ideally in federal employment or administrative law, with the ability to independently manage discovery and support complex cases.
  • Paralegal certification preferred; strong legal training and foundational understanding of litigation processes required.
  • Proficient in AI-enabled legal tools, Microsoft Teams, and document automation to improve efficiency and support modern litigation workflows.
  • Highly meticulous in document review, case organization, and legal writing, with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-evolving, tech-driven environment, with openness to new systems, workflows, and continuous process improvement.
  • Thrives in an in-office role where collaboration and direct engagement with colleagues are integral to success.

Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of the discovery lifecycle, including drafting requests, managing responses, tracking deadlines, and coordinating with opposing counsel to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Draft, proofread, and finalize high-quality litigation documents such as motions, disclosures, pre-hearing statements, and exhibits for attorney review.
  • Leverage AI tools to generate drafts, analyze depositions and records, and streamline workflows, while ensuring all outputs are accurate, polished, and court-ready.
  • Maintain structured and organized case files, including federal agency records, ensuring all materials are easily accessible and cases are consistently prepared for hearings.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for clients, managing document collection, scheduling, and status updates with professionalism and clarity.
  • Prepare hearing materials and provide real-time support during proceedings, including managing exhibits and ensuring seamless execution.
  • Drive improvements in discovery and case preparation workflows by building and implementing more efficient, scalable systems using technology and AI tools.
  • Play a foundational role in the firm’s growth, with the opportunity to help oversee and coordinate remote paralegals as the team expands.
