About The Position

DirectHire A respected, established law firm in Baton Rouge is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant to join a busy practice group and provide high-level support to multiple attorneys. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned legal support professional who knows their way around litigation, stays two steps ahead of deadlines, and enjoys working in a sophisticated law firm environment. The position will support attorneys handling Labor & Employment matters; however, prior Labor & Employment experience is not required. Strong litigation experience from another practice area is absolutely welcome.

Requirements

  • Approximately 5+ years of legal assistant, legal secretary, or litigation support experience preferred
  • Strong litigation experience within a law firm setting
  • Experience supporting multiple attorneys and managing competing priorities
  • Working knowledge of federal and state court procedures
  • Experience with electronic filing, including PACER and/or state court filing systems
  • Strong calendaring and deadline-management skills
  • Excellent proofreading, formatting, grammar, and written communication skills
  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • Confidence working independently and resolving routine procedural issues
  • Strong Microsoft Word and Outlook skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with platforms such as iManage/FileSite, Kofax, ShareFile, DocuSign, Intapp, or similar law firm technology is helpful but not required if you are comfortable learning new systems.
  • Candidates coming from commercial litigation, insurance defense, construction, professional liability, general civil litigation, or other litigation-heavy practices are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Support multiple attorneys with the day-to-day management of active litigation matters
  • Draft, edit, format, and proofread pleadings, discovery, correspondence, motions, and other legal documents
  • Handle electronic filings in federal and state courts
  • Maintain litigation calendars and independently track filing dates, hearings, discovery deadlines, and other key case milestones
  • Assist with exhibits, attachments, and materials for larger or more complex filings
  • Keep attorneys organized by tracking outstanding assignments, deadlines, and case activity
  • Maintain orderly electronic and physical matter files
  • Assist with opening and closing matters and related administrative processes
  • Support attorney time entry, billing, expenses, and client-related costs
  • Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and outside vendors
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion
