About The Position

Fish & Richardson, a premier global intellectual property law firm, is seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join their fast-paced Litigation Practice Systems Department in Chicago. The firm, established in 1878, has over 400 attorneys and technology specialists and is known for its creative and inclusive culture. This role is crucial for managing case files, preparing legal documents, coordinating with various parties, and supporting litigation proceedings.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years’ litigation paralegal experience in a law firm environment, with a focus on legal services delivery.
  • Ability to change and adapt to current and future responsibilities and circumstances.
  • Occasional travel is required.

  • Experience with patent litigation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate creation of case management repository for new matters and maintain case file organization, including ECF downloading and distribution.
  • Generate and format legal documents, prepare and organize exhibits, and finalize them for filing and service.
  • Coordinate with local counsel and process servers.
  • Electronically file court papers, staying current with electronic filing rules in pertinent jurisdictions.
  • Inform the Litigation Docketing Department (LDD) of new matters and promptly distribute filed, served, and received documents, agreements, discovery requests, and deposition notices to the LDD inbox.
  • Work closely with LDD to ensure workflow needs are met.
  • Schedule and coordinate depositions, including maintaining the deposition calendar and processing/distributing transcripts and errata sheets.
  • Communicate with expert witnesses, coordinate logistics, and assist with expert report drafting.
  • Communicate with clients and handle or direct inquiries.
  • Participate in pre-trial planning, coordinate trial logistics, and provide on-site support during trial events and post-trial shutdown.
