Requirements

A Juris Doctor from a nationally recognized law school.
Admission to applicable state bar.
Extensive patent litigation experience preferred; a willingness to learn is a minimum.
A technical background or demonstrated ability to quickly grasp complex technologies is highly valued.
Flexible for the right fit.
A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to execute and effectively prioritize the highest impact tasks.

Attention to detail.
Client service orientation and ability to respond quickly and pragmatically to urgent matters.

Nice To Haves

Experience in the technology and networking spaces is a plus, but not necessary if there is a willingness to learn.
Experience with technology companies or the computer networking industry is a plus.
Candidates with backgrounds at premier law firms or in-house patent litigation teams are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

In concert with Fortinet's Vice President of Litigation and Compliance and executive team, oversee the company’s global litigation portfolio, which includes US-based patent litigation, as well as employment, securities, general business, and other litigation worldwide.
Provide strategic guidance to outside counsel.
Support outside counsel in coordinating discovery, including implementing litigation holds, working with witnesses, and gathering evidence.
Manage internal responses to subpoenas, statutory records requests, etc.
Directly negotiate resolution of pre-litigation and early stage litigation disputes independently or with minimal oversight.
Develop processes and playbooks for a maturing litigation department.
Control outside legal spend.
Handle small matters independently, and work on larger matters collaboratively.
Assist with occasional internal investigations, including but not limited to pre-dispute matters and corporate compliance matters.
