About The Position

Whitley Law Firm is looking for an experienced Personal Injury Litigation Attorney to join their team. This attorney will be responsible for the hands-on management of personal injury cases, including medical malpractice, auto accidents, and premise liability, through legal proceedings. The role involves leading and providing oversight for a staff of case managers and/or paralegals, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and excellent customer service. The position is primarily based in the Raleigh, NC office with occasional travel to Charleston, SC.

Requirements

  • Active licensure in SC to practice law.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the State Bar of South Carolina with good standing.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years demonstrated litigation experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years working directly in a personal injury law firm required in pre-litigation, WC, or handling of personal injury cases.
  • Experience leading and mentoring a team within a legal setting.
  • Proven track record of representing clients in court.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise extensive independent judgment to make decisions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and negotiation communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality legal representation and client service.
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and cross-departmentally.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively utilize a CMS (Client Management System).
  • Proven utilization of technology, including computers, databases, portals, and software.
  • Professional and courteous demeanor with demonstrated compassion and empathy for clients.
  • Ability to de-escalate when needed.
  • High level of professionalism and ethical behavior.

Nice To Haves

  • Active licensure in the State Bar of North Carolina or ability to obtain within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a caseload of litigation matters to resolution.
  • Examining legal and medical data to determine insurance coverage, liability, and damages.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and insurance companies.
  • Ensuring client satisfaction and timely follow-up throughout each case.
  • Drafting pleadings, motions, demands, and other legal documents.
  • Representing clients in negotiations, mediations, court hearings, and trials.
  • Conducting depositions and interviews with clients, witnesses, and experts.
  • Preparing for and participating in trial proceedings as necessary.
  • Supporting and leading a team of paralegals and/or case managers.
  • Ensuring accuracy, compliance, and excellent customer service across the team.
  • Building and establishing relationships in the communities served to enhance brand recognition, marketing efforts, and client service.
  • Providing ongoing coaching, feedback, and process improvements within the department.
  • Conducting legal research and analysis related to personal injury laws, regulations, and precedents.
  • Staying updated on developments in personal injury litigation law and related areas.
