About The Position

The Denver Waldorf School (DWS) seeks a qualified candidate to join our faculty as a temporary, part-time Literacy Support Specialist for the 2026–2027 school year. This position is anticipated to begin on August 3, 2026, and continue through mid- to late February 2027, although the exact end date may vary based on the school's needs. The Literacy Support Specialist supports students in grades 1–8 through individualized and small-group literacy instruction. This role plays a vital part in helping students access the curriculum while fostering their academic, social, and emotional growth within a Waldorf educational environment. The Literacy Support Specialist provides literacy intervention using an Orton-Gillingham approach, collaborates with teachers and families, supports student accommodations, conducts literacy assessments, and helps maintain the grade school library. This position works closely with the Student Support Team to ensure students receive the support they need to thrive.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or a relevant combination of experience.
  • Proficiency and certification in Orton-Gillingham required.
  • Maintain current CPR/1st Aid, Medication Administration Certifications.
  • Experience in working with faculty and administrative teams.
  • Proficiency in project management and planning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google applications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one, small-group, and classroom-based literacy support for students in grades 1–8.
  • Implement structured literacy interventions using the Orton-Gillingham approach.
  • Assess student literacy skills and monitor progress.
  • Collaborate with teachers, families, and outside providers to support student success.
  • Support implementation of literacy-related accommodations and assistive technology.
  • Prepare student progress reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Participate in meetings related to student support and educational planning.
  • Assist with management of the grade school library.
