About The Position

Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) is seeking a dedicated Literacy Coach for the 2026-2027 school year at Croft Middle School. This role is part of the Education Administration Professionals, Curriculum and Instruction team. The Literacy Coach, under the direction of the principal and in collaboration with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, is responsible for building teachers' capacity in literacy through job-embedded professional development and coaching cycles. The goal is to enhance teacher effectiveness in meeting system-wide and local school initiatives to improve student learning in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and effective language use.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in reading or with reading coursework
  • 5 years of successful teaching experience
  • Meets highly effective rating (4 or 5) on the most recent evaluation
  • Admission to the Metro Nashville Public Schools K-12 Literacy Coach Pool
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of tools, especially instructional technology, to enhance and extend instruction; maintains proficiency in instructional technologies.
  • Submission of a comprehensive lesson plan or video showcasing the candidate teaching a Tier 1 ELA or literacy lesson; or, a comprehensive coaching plan or video showcasing a conference with a teacher/colleague or a small or large group professional development session.
  • Submission of three letters of reference from current principal, colleague, and a teacher the candidate supported that speak to the candidate’s literacy skills, knowledge and expertise as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Mandatory attendance required at the summer MNPS Literacy Coach Institute training.
  • Strong background in literacy instruction.
  • Certification in English or reading, curriculum development, or a related field
  • Certification and teaching experience in the tier

Responsibilities

  • Champion the framework for MNPS ELA Literacy Instruction and support the implementation of adopted ELA curriculum materials.
  • Collaborate with the school leadership team to utilize data for setting school-wide pedagogical goals and developing, implementing, and monitoring literacy instruction plans.
  • Provide professional development for teachers on research-based best practices for implementing adopted MNPS ELA curriculum materials.
  • Partner with families, community members, and school stakeholders to support the literacy plan's vision.
  • Engage with teachers and administrators in ongoing analysis of classroom and student-level data to inform instruction.
  • Utilize group-level data for programmatic decisions, monitoring student progress, and supporting professional learning.
  • Support teachers and their work with students through Professional Learning Community sessions focused on unit/lesson planning, student work analysis, rehearsing high-leverage teaching practices, and analyzing classroom video.
  • Build the capacity of individual teachers through one-on-one coaching cycles, including collaborative planning, observations, modeling, co-teaching, videotaping, and collaborative reflection.
  • Support the literacy development of individual students through modeling best practices, providing interventions or remediation, and administering diagnostic assessments (spending no more than 25% of time on direct student support).
  • Exhibit professionalism by committing to adopted curriculum and instruction frameworks, engaging in continuous professional growth, participating in and promoting district-level professional development, attending required meetings, maintaining professional materials, documenting coaching and instructional support, and promoting productive relationships.
