About The Position

Atlanta Heights Charter School, located in Atlanta, GA, opened in 2010 and serves over 750 K-8 students annually. The school is known for its strong leadership, dedicated instructional coaches, collaborative approach, and academic performance, having been recognized as 'Beating the Odds' and achieving high scores in Closing the Gap for both elementary and middle school. The Literacy Coach will be a part-time position, working 20 hours per week. This role is crucial for the school's literacy and instructional improvement, acting as a specialist who supports teachers. The coach will utilize evidence-based practices rooted in the Science of Reading, guide data-driven decisions, and ensure the effective implementation of high-quality literacy instruction and intervention programs. A key aspect of the role involves direct collaboration with the principal to create and execute a strategic literacy coaching plan that aligns with the school's overall improvement objectives. The majority of the coach's time will be spent directly in classrooms, working alongside teachers and students through various support methods such as modeling, co-teaching, observation, and coaching cycles.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of documented successful classroom teaching or literacy intervention experience at the assigned grade levels.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Scientifically based reading research.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Evidence-based literacy instruction and intervention.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Dyslexia-specific interventions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Student data analysis and application to instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of The Science of Reading and structured literacy practices.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the principal to develop and implement a strategic literacy coaching plan aligned to school improvement goals.
  • Spend the majority of coaching time working directly in classrooms alongside teachers and students through modeling, co-teaching, observation, coaching cycles, and side-by-side support.
  • Analyze collaboratively with teaching staff, student screening, diagnostic, formative, and progress-monitoring data to inform instruction, grouping decisions, and intervention planning within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.
  • Synthesize student performance data and teacher practice data to establish coaching goals and provide differentiated, needs-based support to educators.
  • Support implementation of evidence-based literacy curricula, instructional materials, and intervention programs with fidelity.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of literacy instruction and interventions and support teachers in adjusting instructional practices based on student data.
  • Provide professional development and coaching focused on: Explicit and systematic reading instruction, Foundational literacy skills, Reading comprehension, Writing instruction, Dyslexia awareness and intervention strategies, Science of Reading best practices.
