About The Position

Under the direction of the Literacy Coordinator(s), the Literacy Associate 2 performs a variety of moderately complex technical paraprofessional duties in support of various sections/functions of Literacy Services. This role involves conducting learner orientations, performing assessments, providing customer service, maintaining records, offering individual and small group instruction, handling phone and reception duties, and assisting with community outreach. The position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites and Zoom.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Experience in Literacy, Education, Social or Human Services, or related field.
  • Ability to work a regular schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites, and Zoom
  • Excellent customer service skills both written and verbal with emphasis on compassion, patience, and tact when working with individuals with diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrated focus on the program mission and goals
  • Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lifting of items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasional up to 50 pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials with a buddy system.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor Degree preferred
  • ESL certification such as a TESOL, CELTA, or TEFL is a plus.
  • English / Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct learner orientations
  • Perform assessments for adult entering the Literacy program, tutor training and coaching.
  • Provide customers service
  • Maintain records with timely and accurate data entry
  • Provide individual and small group instruction to support student learning
  • Perform phone and reception duties
  • Assist with outreach to the community
  • Other duties as assigned
