Clerks communicate with supervisors to determine merchandising plans and priorities, and write lists of products needed for stocking. Customer service is a key aspect, including answering phones, directing customers, and providing product information. Additionally, clerks verify legal purchase age for alcohol and tobacco, ring up orders, receive payments, make change, and process various payment methods. Cleaning duties involve sweeping, mopping, spraying, wiping, and dusting. Stocking supplies, emptying trash, and operating trash compactors and cardboard balers are also part of the role. The position requires operating a cash register, scanners, conveyor belt, carts, flatbeds, and other equipment. Assistance in other departments may be required, along with performing other assigned functions.
