About The Position

The successful candidate will work as a member of the product engineering group and interface with manufacturing teams (MFG) in developing and characterizing liquid-crystal-based light modulators and research groups from other division. The candidate will interface with MFG team to perform failure analysis at different stages of modulator manufacturing and the Nematic Curvilinear Aligned Phases (NCAP) and will be responsible in qualifying new raw materials and understand the complex interaction between cross-linkers, polymers, defoamers to produce consistent polymer-liquid crystal devices.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in liquid crystal display fabrication, characterization, and formulation.
  • 1 year of experience on formulation and characterization of Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystals (PDLC), and general lab experience.
  • Polymer, Liquid crystal, and Nanoparticle characterization experience by GC-MS/FID, FTIR, Viscosity, TGA, DSC and NMR.
  • Familiarity with antireflective and reflective thin film coatings and their characterization.
  • Statistical analysis and process control charts.
  • Design of experiments (DOE) for process analysis/changes.
  • Experience with basic failure analysis: reflectometry, OM SEM, TEM, FTIR and cleanroom environment.
  • Familiarity with self-assembly of surfactants, lipids, emulsions, and its molecular interactions.
  • General knowledge of computer/programming skills: MATLAB, Mathematica, Origin, LabView and image analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of JMP software for statistical analysis is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Studying and developing new or current liquid crystal-based sensors while ensuring quality control and yield.
  • Drive formulation and characterization of NCAP or PDLC for modulator MFG improvements.
  • Physic-chemical and morphological characterization of incoming materials.
  • Electro-optical characterization of liquid crystal devices.
  • Interface with Modulator MFG team to create best known method (BKM) for NCAP formulation and polymer coatings.
  • Statistical analysis to find route cause analysis in the modulator process.
  • Characterization of antireflective and reflective coatings; with suppliers to improve current devices.
  • Liquid crystal device characterization and fabrication.
  • Develop and improve algorithms for image processing and defect thresholding in MATLAB, image processing and understanding.
