About The Position

SMX is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to support an embedded lab environment at NAS Patuxent River. This onsite role provides hands-on support for hardware, operating systems, and applications. The administrator helps ensure deployed lab systems comply with DoD security and configuration standards through patching, scanning, backups, and STIG application. The role requires Linux expertise, shell scripting, Ansible automation, and troubleshooting skills.

Requirements

3+ years of related experience.
Security+ certification or higher.
Ability to work onsite at NAS Patuxent River full-time.
Proficiency with Linux, including RHEL, Ubuntu, Solaris, or CentOS.
Proficiency with Linux shell scripting.
Experience with Ansible.
Foundational troubleshooting and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to follow established compliance, configuration, and documentation processes.
Secret clearance required; must be able to obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with compliance practices, including DoD STIGs, patching, and scanning.
Experience in lab or RDT&E support environments.
Exposure to networking and virtualization technologies.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Provide hardware support for deployed lab systems.
Install, configure, and support operating systems and application software.
Perform compliance assurance tasks, including STIG application, patching, backups, and vulnerability scanning across lab devices.
Develop and maintain Linux scripts for system administration tasks.
Create and maintain Ansible playbooks to automate administrative and compliance activities.
Troubleshoot issues involving hardware, operating systems, applications, and network connectivity.
Collaborate with administrators and engineers to keep lab systems secure and operational.
