About The Position

The SEI helps advance software engineering principles and practices and serves as a national resource in software engineering, computer security, and process improvement. The SEI works closely with defense and government organizations, industry, and academia to continually improve software-intensive systems. Our core purpose is to help organizations improve software engineering capabilities and develop or acquire the right software, defect free, within budget and on time, every time. Position Summary: The main responsibility of this position is the operation, administration and compliance of systems hosting various Linux-based information services in a multi-platform environment. Additional network devices operation, administration, and compliance is desired. You will ideally have: Experience operating and maintaining production Linux-based IT services Working knowledge of system administration scripting languages Working knowledge of Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) History participating in the entire lifecycle (planning, deployment, maintenance) of government-accredited systems Experience administrating Windows Server 2016 or higher and Windows 11 OS

Requirements

• BS in Computer Science, Information Science, or related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Licenses: RHCSA and/or Linux+ CE. (Must obtain within 9 months of work commencement)
• Candidate will be subject to a background check and will need to obtain and maintain a T5 collateral clearance with ICD 704 eligibility.
• You also need to meet and maintain DOD 8140 readiness requirements within nine (9) months of employment at SEI’s expense.
• Additional work hours (weekend and evening hours) may be required on an infrequent basis.
• May be required to stay at or return to work during incidents and/or emergencies to perform duties as requested.
• This position is located in the Pittsburgh, PA office with potential for ~10% travel to the northern Virginia SEI office site.
• Operate and administer Linux systems and their applications with little technical oversight based on documented operations practices.
• Proven skill in analyzing logging and other diagnostic output from multiple systems to solve and resolve issues is required.
• Temperament to serve as a second-tier support for issues from the helpdesk and to function as a liaison between customer groups.
• Operate and administer Windows systems and their applications with guidance and technical oversight based on team collaboration and documented operations practices.
• Familiar with Windows Server 2016 (or Higher) Server Manager Roles and Features.
• Familiar with Windows 11 operating system

Nice To Haves

• Three or more years of Linux system and network administration.
• Proficiency in Linux administration commands/utilities and processes such as those to configure Linux (software, repackage Linux RPMs, system configurations).
• Experience applying analytical skills to solve system and network problems based on examination of events/alerts and system logs.
• Experience with Windows domain administration.
• Proficiency in Windows administration commands/utilities and processes such as those to configure Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM / SCCM).
• Experience applying analytical skills to solve system problems based on examination of events/alerts and system logs.
• Experience working with external authorities on standalone and disconnected systems preferred.
• Possess attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks – sometimes under pressure and with shifting priorities; ability to deal collaboratively, diplomatically, and optimally with customers, co-workers and other professional colleagues, managers, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Ensures server(s) and client workstations are operating efficiently and resolves issues impacting their use.
• Recommends and performs modifications to improve server/service performance and reliability to include STIG automation.
• Shares information with other IA team members to increase situational awareness of operational status.
• Executes proper handling (e.g., safe storage, proper marking, and approved destruction) of equipment, documents and media used in the operation and maintenance of accredited systems.
• Contributes information relating to new equipment and facility needs each budget planning session to improve and create services.
• Implements information systems safeguards and local operating procedures to satisfy certification requirements and works with the ISSM and ISSO to align with SEI practices.
• Maintains and securely operates services based on guidance from the ISSM, FSO, and senior management.
• Identifies user and systems issues and resolves trivial issues independently. Information security issues and complex operational problems are handled collaboratively with IA teammates and IT or Security staff.
