About The Position

If so, we invite you to apply for the Linux Server Engineer (ISS7) position within the Hybrid Compute Managed Services (HCMS) team. Data Center Services (DCS) is a shared service organization within Enterprise Information Services (EIS.) The DCS team maintains and operates a state-of-the-art Data Center, providing a highly secure environment with redundant infrastructure for high availability and efficiency. The services we provide include network connectivity (WAN, LAN, and Wireless), server hosting (mainframe, iSeries, AIX, Linux, and Windows), email services, Data Center colocation and data backup services.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of information systems experience in: Linux systems-based administration; OR
  • An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND four (4) years of information systems experience in: Linux systems-based administration ; OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND two (2) years of information systems experience in: Linux systems-based administration; OR
  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field may substitute for all of the above.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Applicants who require VISA sponsorship will not be considered at this time.
  • This position requires you to obtain and maintain CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) clearance.
  • Employee will be required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the state where the employee resides.
  • Finalists will be subject to a computerized criminal history check. Adverse background data may be grounds for immediate disqualification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in managing and maintaining database technologies on Linux in an enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining Linux servers and virtual environments, supporting and maintaining a standardized Linux environment in an enterprise setting.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux Server Operating Systems and HyperV or VMware.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Skill with GitHub and Terraform, or other industry standard code-repository and automation tools.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability to collaborate with teammates and build positive business relationships with superiors, subordinates, peers, and others outside of their organization.
  • Proven ability and skill to clearly explain complex/technical concepts in terms that are understandable for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Skilled in current Data Center technologies, system and process development methods, and the use of computing resources at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and daily operational support for Data Center Services.
  • Focus on installation, configuration, maintenance, and security of Linux servers.
  • Deliver customer assistance for Linux servers, including diagnosing system issues and responding to service interruptions.
  • Perform operational maintenance tasks such as patching, evaluating updates, and managing system resources.
  • Use automation tools and platforms to streamline processes, manage standards, and deploy infrastructure and configurations as code.
