About The Position

The Line-up Editor (regional) plays a central role in ensuring our text, video and live story pages at CBC Quebec are accurate, impactful and positioned to reach audiences we aim to grow on digital and streaming platforms. You will be one of two copy editors for CBC Quebec, based in Montreal and a core member of the digital distribution and publishing team. You will collaborate with the wider newsroom that includes six digital journalists, two digital formats journalists, and 16 field reporters across the province. At CBC Quebec, our four key priorities for 2026-27 focus on increasing our relevance. We will achieve this by reaching more Canadians on multiple digital platforms, delivering the stories and formats they want, when they want them in the 24/7 news cycle. We want Montrealers, Quebecers and Canadians to spend more time with CBC content. The successful candidate will be an accomplished journalist and an excellent news editor with a sharp eye for a range of stories that connect with audiences. You will oversee content development and prepare regional lineups for our mobile, social and streaming platforms, in keeping with CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices. You have attention to detail and high quality standards. You write sharp headlines and engaging digital news copy. You prepare and package text and video for publishing with audience needs at the forefront. You are proficient in leveraging visual storytelling tools and techniques, and adapting to evolving technologies. You bring to the role experience and knowledge of digital news, visual storytelling, social media strategies, copy editing, metrics, and new story treatments. You will work closely with our journalists, video and radio producers and editors, and play a key role in the digital rollout of editorial projects including community initiatives. You will track our results and share our daily successes with the CBC team. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent
Five (5) years’ journalism degree or the equivalent
Extensive general knowledge
In-depth knowledge of current events and news across the province
Connection to and understanding of Quebec’s diverse and underrepresented communities
Fluency in the working language (English)
Comprehensive knowledge of the other official language (French)
Strong vetting skills for digital copy
Excellent reporting, interviewing and writing skills.
Thorough knowledge of newsroom logistics.
Knowledge of production techniques
Aptitude with text and video content management systems.
Knowledge of CBC’s journalistic standards and practices.
Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
Stellar communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent news judgment and ability to work effectively, collaboratively and gracefully under 24/7 newsroom deadline pressure.
Active user of social media platforms.
Must be available to work all shifts, depending on the assignment
A mandatory Criminal record check.

Responsibilities

Follow regional, national and international news events, relying on various sources.
Seek, gather, analyze, check and select reports and news items for newscasts. Look for national news items aired on the network that may have regional impact. Identify sources and check facts.
Attend story meetings for daily and special-event coverage. Suggest story ideas and discuss story angles with your colleagues. Prepare the newscast lineup.
Maintain a network of contacts.
Select audio and video clips. Adapt the content of these clips or reports for various newscast formats.
Determine story angles. Write copy, headlines and intros in the appropriate style. Prepare live reports from reporters in the field.
Monitor news developments with an eye on deadlines and change newscast content accordingly.
Vet reporters’ work prior to airing. Request changes, if necessary.
Determine the newscast lineup. For new media, ensure that each news item is accompanied by the necessary text (title, headlines) and audio and visual elements. For television, supervise newscast content during on-air presentation. For radio, supervise on-air presentations. In the control room, instruct and inform team members. While the newscast is airing, decide whether the lineup should be changed to reflect breaking news.
Advise the newsroom or website supervisor of any events that deserve special coverage.
After a broadcast, provide feedback to reporters and management. Review the newscast if necessary.
