About The Position

Builds, repairs, and maintains electrical transmission and distribution overhead and underground systems. This role requires the use of precautionary work methods and safety equipment due to electrical hazards present when working on or near energized conductors and electrical accessories. The Lineman opens and closes switches and installs grounding devices to lines and equipment. The job posting end date is 06-13-2026, with the posting closing on the day before. A residency requirement mandates living within a 35-mile radius/40 roadway miles of the service location.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
Successful completion of apprentice lineman training, including B-200 certification written test with a score of 80% or higher and successful completion of hands-on comprehensive demonstrations.
External candidates must have a minimum of 4 years line work experience and successful completion of the journeyman pre-assessment.
Must possess and maintain a valid CDL A state driver's license.
Must have the ability to climb and work at heights.
Must have the ability to communicate with employees, customers, and the general public in a courteous and proper manner.
Must pass the AEP Pre-Assessment Evaluation.
Must acquire, within a time determined by the Company, the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of the next higher line of progression or vacate the current job classifications.

Responsibilities

Climbs poles or rides in a bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators, or other hardware on poles.
Installs and repairs underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads, and pedestals.
Installs pole hardware and auxiliary equipment like transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devices.
Covers energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service.
Uses insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools and/or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work.
May service streetlight systems.
May patrol power lines.
Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.
