About The Position

Bandera Electric Cooperative (BEC) and BEC Fiber are seeking a Lineman Apprentice to join their Operations Team. This role involves assisting experienced linemen with energized electrical system tasks, ensuring necessary materials are on hand, and operating equipment under supervision to gain skills for advancement. The position requires completing 1,000 hours of on-the-job training (OJT) and fulfilling the training and competency requirements of the Cooperative's Lineman Progression Program.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Pole Top Rescue Certification
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in an equivalent position
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and related insurance
  • CDL Class A must be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Must pass background, drug screening and physical
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, and materials
  • Knowledge in the use of tools and equipment used in line work
  • Physical strength and ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and guidelines
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to complete tasks and problem-solve with direct supervision
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to details
  • Organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and load material required to complete service and work orders
  • Assist in construction and maintenance tasks for power distribution systems utilizing the required equipment and under the supervision of experienced line workers
  • Plan efficient service work routes and perform assigned tasks at each service location under the direction and supervision of experienced line workers as required
  • Make secondary connections and assist with outdoor light repairs under the direction and supervision of experienced line workers
  • Assist in providing support for all major and non-major outages in restoring service to members as required
  • Demonstrate competency in tasks outlined in Cooperative’s Lineman Progression Program Job Competency Demonstration Form
  • Complete the required training and certification(s) outlined in the Cooperative’s Lineman Progression Program
  • Complete the required on-the-job training (OJT) hours requirement to promote to the next level of Lineman progression
