About The Position

A Line Technician is a Journeyman line worker and will construct and maintain electric power facilities and related equipment requiring use of work methods and safety equipment; does related work as required to support the mission and vision of MPU. A Line Technician understands and is able to perform all work functions on energized equipment up to 69 kilovolts. An employee in this class has a comprehensive knowledge of electric distribution circuits, substations, AMI, SCADA and a complete understanding of materials and equipment used, methods of repair, maintenance and construction on high voltage power lines and distribution equipment. A complete understanding of all safety practices and procedures of high voltage electric work is necessary.

Requirements

  • Journeyman line worker with a Certificate of Apprenticeship in Electric Line Trade.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of high voltage power lines and the means and methods for distribution equipment troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and construction.
  • Ability to work well with coworkers and the public.
  • Embraces growth mindset and initiative to self-improve.

Nice To Haves

  • Standard high school diploma, a two-year degree in a related field of study is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works independently on equipment up to 600 volts.
  • Works to construct, operate and maintain electric facilities energized at up to 69,000 volts.
  • Works according to safety rules.
  • Makes decisions in the field as required.
  • Subject to on-call duty rotation assignment.
  • Works nights, weekends, and holidays as required and in emergencies.
