About The Position

Central Hudson’s Line Supervisor oversee the Company’s electric transmission and distribution systems. A Line Supervisor plans, schedules, coordinates, evaluates, and supervises the activities and functions of company and contractor crews engaged in the construction, operation and maintenance (including line clearance) of electric transmission and distribution lines and equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering, Business Management or related field of study and 3 years of electric transmission and/or distribution overhead line or network related experience.
  • In lieu of an Associate’s degree, a High School Diploma or equivalency degree and at least 5 years of electric transmission and/or distribution overhead line or network related experience.
  • Must be willing to respond to all requests to work outside of normal work hours and on a regular rotation to be "on call" during all hours outside of the scheduled workweek.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills along with strong organization and planning skills.
  • Basic proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage a wide variety of projects and deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • It is preferred that new management employees have at least 12 months of service with the Company, or that current management employees have at least 12 months of continuous service in their current position. The Company reserves sole discretion in waiving these timeframes.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management or related field of study.
  • 5 or more years of Supervisory or Project Management experience and/or experience directing construction/maintenance field work.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, and supervises the daily activities of line crews engaged in maintenance, construction, emergency response, and right‑of‑way maintenance operations to maximize productivity, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures effective utilization of personnel, equipment, tools, and corporate assets through sound planning, performance monitoring, and cost control.
  • Plans, develops and recommends improvements and changes in plant, equipment, tools, methods, standards, rules and practices.
  • Evaluates operational processes and implements changes that enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Identifies, develops, and recommends improvements to equipment, tools, methods, standards, and work practices.
  • Trains, coaches, and instructs employees in the performance of their job duties, safety rules and regulations, and standard work practices to promote skill development and consistent performance.
  • Promotes and maintains a safe work environment for employees, contractors, and the public, driving continuous improvement toward a zero‑incident workplace.
  • Responds to all requests to work outside of normal work hours and on a regular rotation to be "on call" during all hours outside of the scheduled workweek.
  • May require daily travel to job locations throughout the Central Hudson service territory and the ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Arranges and supervises the performance of distribution switching as required.
  • Coordinates daily activities with other Line Supervisors, internal operating units, contractors, customers, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication to execute work.
  • Provides managerial control of assigned personnel through leadership to fulfill organizational goals and objectives, controls and monitors costs, and ensures the appropriate use of corporate assets.
  • Performs continuing inspections of lines and equipment, recognizing and correcting any faulty or abnormal conditions promptly.
  • Supports Distribution Engineering with project scoping, feasibility assessments, and constructability reviews.
  • Coordinates and schedules Transmission outages and arranges and supervises transmission and distribution switching as required.
  • Provides leadership, direction, and managerial oversight to both internal and contracted personnel, including crews performing line construction, clearing, civil road building, foundation drilling, access and matting, and environmental controls.
  • Works closely with Transmission System Operations, Engineering, Environmental, and Local Electric Distribution Managers during event response and restoration.
  • Conducts routine inspections of lines, structures, and equipment, promptly identifying and correcting unsafe, abnormal, or deficient conditions.
  • Supports Transmission Engineering with project scoping, feasibility assessments, and constructability reviews.
