About The Position

Performs a variety of duties related to ground servicing of aircraft and providing customer service to crews and passengers. This is a part-time position with no benefits. The role is safety sensitive and subject to random drug testing. The work schedule varies, including weekdays from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and weekends from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM or 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The position requires availability on UGA Football game days and potentially on religious holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is essential, as is the ability to work cooperatively with others. Responsibilities include promoting a positive image of the Athens-Clarke County Airport, ensuring adherence to security procedures, greeting, parking, towing, wing walking, moving, and marshalling aircraft. Duties also involve operating fuel trucks, tugs, forklifts, and service vehicles, fueling aircraft, providing oil and tire pressure service, loading/unloading baggage/cargo, offering shuttle service, providing electrical power and aircraft cleaning, and general cleaning of ramp and customer areas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to use independent judgement in routine and non-routine situations.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to plan, organize and/or prioritize daily assignments and work activities.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply the regulations and procedures of the department.
  • Ability to use portable fire extinguishing equipment, ground-to-air communication equipment and flight line equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and other staff members.
  • Ability to communicate in both oral and written form.
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including refueling trucks, ground power units, and tow tractors.
  • Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials.
  • Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and explain documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals in English.
  • Effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and in English.
  • Ability to learn and understand basic principles and techniques; to acquire and be able to expound on knowledge of topics related to primary occupation; and to make independent judgment in the absence of management.
  • Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, and to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of administrative, technical or professional languages including aviation and fire service terminology.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, area, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic math.
  • Ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, visually with hand tools, millipore testers.
  • Ability to coordinate hands, fingers, and eyes accurately in using refueling trucks, tow tractors, and ground power units.
  • Ability to lift, bend, push, pull, manipulate equipment/tools and objects as the position necessitates.
  • Ability to handle a variety of items such as fuel trucks, tugs and GPU's.
  • Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities.
  • Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Must be adaptable to performing under minimum stress when confronted with an emergency.
  • Must be able to speak/hear and understand English: (speak - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words). (Hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
  • Must be able to communicate via telephone, two-way radio, and hand signals.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of airport flight line experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain a positive image of the Athens-Clarke County Airport at all times to all personnel, members, volunteers, vendors and the community.
  • Ensure that all ACC Airport security procedures are followed in accordance with the ACC Airport Security and Safety Policy.
  • Responsible for greeting, parking, towing, wing walking, moving and marshalling aircraft arriving or departing the ramp area.
  • Drive fuel trucks, tugs, forklifts and service vehicles.
  • Fuel aircraft.
  • Supply oil and tire pressure service for aircraft.
  • Provide service by loading and unloading of baggage/cargo to/from aircraft.
  • Make available shuttle service for passengers/crew as required.
  • Furnish ground service functions such as providing electrical power and aircraft cleaning.
  • Provide general cleaning & clearing of debris from ramp, building and customer areas.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
