About The Position

Under directive supervision, this role involves performing the most complicated construction and maintenance work on energized conductors, structures, and equipment. The Line Mechanic must be capable of making all types of polyphase transformer installations, performing phasing and phase rotation on polyphase circuits, and executing distribution and transmission switching and sectionalizing when required. They will also be responsible for tracing and clearing grounds and opens on series circuits. The position may require the installation of instrument transformers and the installation, removal, connection, or disconnection of electric and/or gas meters and services. Additionally, the role includes performing other related and less skilled work as directed, including the operation of transportation equipment, and directing the work of other Linemen or Groundmen assisting them. A memorandum governs bonus pay for Chief Line and Lineman 1/C assigned additional supervisory responsibility.

Requirements

At least 3 years of experience as a Second-Class Lineman or equivalent, evidenced by an appropriate test.
Able to perform routine operations of moderate complexity and variety based on detailed instructions.
Equivalent to about two years of high school.
Good working knowledge of Company's line practices and standards.
Good working knowledge of the layout and characteristics of the distribution and transmission lines in the assigned area.
Working knowledge of electrical fundamentals as related to transmission and distribution construction and maintenance.
Familiarity with Company's Safety Rules, approved methods of resuscitation on or off the ground, and ability to render practical First Aid.
Ability to qualify for an automobile operator's license.
Normal health, physique, and use of senses as indicated by passing the required physical examination given by a Company physician, including color perception.
Strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.
Willingness to work irregular and/or extra hours as required.
Willingness to work under unusual or special working conditions and surroundings, as well as normal working conditions.

Chief Line and Lineman 1/C assigned additional supervisory responsibility (governed by bonus pay memorandum).
