About The Position

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the position as necessary. Performs repair and replacement of wastewater collection system force mains, trunk lines, manholes, creek banks and other system components. Provides training and leadership of crew members as assigned. Receives, reviews and assigns work orders to crew members. Determines the necessary equipment, materials and personnel to accomplish assigned tasks. Orders and/or requests supplies, parts, materials, tools and equipment necessary for daily activities; assists in estimating project costs. Hauls equipment (Track-hoe, Excavator, Rubber tire loader, backhoe, etc.) and supplies to work sites. Locates manholes as necessary. Operates heavy and specialized equipment as necessary, including but not limited to trucks, trailers, track hoes, back hoes, front-end loaders, cement mixer, low boys, tankers, bull dozers, motor graders, rollers, compactors, etc.; operates a jack hammer, pipe saw and other assorted hand/power tools. Performs right-of-way maintenance and repair as needed. Performs routine landscaping work as necessary at the completion of maintenance and repair projects to repair property damage. Imports and exports data within a CMMS (Cityworks) system. Provides traffic control at work sites to ensure citizen / crew safety. Inspects work in progress and at completion for compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of work performed. Inspects equipment for proper and safe working condition; maintains assigned vehicles, tools and equipment. Receives and responds to inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance in areas of responsibility. Works on call 24 hours per day as scheduled for emergency response. Attends conferences, meetings, training, seminars, etc., as necessary to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills. Management may assign additional duties as trained for and qualified to do so related to the work of the position as necessary.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training.
  • Must possess a valid state Position “A” CDL driver’s license no restrictions with tanker endorsement.
  • Must acquire a Collection System “C” Certification with 2 years of the date of employment.
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment.

  • May be required to obtain additional technical/safety certifications as deemed necessary by supervisor.
