About The Position

The Line Driver operates an industrial-sized forklift to manage product, supplies, and materials, transferring them between departments and storage areas while adhering to customer regulations and specifications. Key responsibilities include storing and retrieving goods, rotating stock using FIFO practices, and meticulously recording inventory movements. The operator uses a hand-held scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to ensure inventory accuracy. This role involves operating a forklift to pick up, move, load, and unload products from trailers, following all departmental, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines. Additionally, the Line Driver performs minor equipment service, conducts daily safety inspections, and reports any issues to the supervisor. They are also responsible for forklift maintenance tasks such as changing fuel bottles, refueling, and troubleshooting repairs. Maintaining a clean and orderly work area, dock, and equipment is crucial, along with adhering to storage design principles and suggesting improvements. The position requires creating product labels, understanding lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules, and completing daily reports by entering information into a computer program. Operators must be proficient in using basic tools like wrenches, tape measures, scales, air, and water hoses, and consolidating partial pallets as directed. Maneuvering the forklift safely in tight spaces while ensuring the safety of other team members is paramount. The Line Driver is expected to be an active team member, participating in development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, policies, and practices, and fostering cohesiveness within the team. They must be familiar with Simmons’ operating systems, including quality, security, and company policies, and understand their role in supporting these systems, including communicating concerns and improvement ideas. The role also involves performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Must be able to climb on and off of the forklift.
  • Must be able to back fork-lift up safely which requires turning the neck and body in the opposite direction.
  • Must be able to lift and stack up to 50 lbs from floor to crown.
  • Must be able to sit and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds multiple times daily.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures both hot and cold, wet, dry, dusty environment.

Responsibilities

  • Notes and reports any damaged cartons, crates or containers.
  • Records items added or removed from inventory.
  • Stores product by using an industrial forklift and uses a hand held scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory.
  • Operates a forklift to pick up, move, load and unload product on, or from trailers while meeting department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Performs minor service of equipment and completes written daily safety inspections.
  • Identifies and reports noted problems to the supervisor for further inspection and repair.

  • Fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.
  • Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
  • Maintains familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies).
  • Understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
