About The Position

Supervises one or more electric journeyman lineman and performs work on member city and OMPA owned facilities. Coordinates with the Line Crew Superintendent to order needed materials, plan and schedule work. Works with electric journeyman linemen in coordinating the work of member city operations and maintenance personnel, including contractor crews, to safely and efficiently complete work projects. Work involves climbing poles, driving and operating line bucket and digger derrick trucks, working with specialty tools and handling high voltages. Responsible for enforcement of safety policies and seeing that construction standards are followed. Considerable independent action is required. Must be a self-starter and encourage other team members to take initiative in planning, coordination, and problem solving for line crew activities.

Requirements

  • Equivalent of four years in high school, plus night, trade extension, or correspondence school specialized training, equal to two years of college, plus 7 years related experience and/or training, and 5 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and understand general business/company related articles and professional journals; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.
  • Certified Journeyman Lineman.
  • CDL.
  • Intermediate: Other software skills.
  • Basic: Accounting, Contact Management, Human Resources Systems, Payroll Systems, Presentation/PowerPoint, Spreadsheet, Word Processing/Typing software skills.
  • Must be a person focused on safety and training.
  • Ability to handle dangerous work and ensure the safety of the crew.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise one line crew.
  • Schedule work and assist member cities with job planning.
  • Lead the training of apprentices and be responsible for the safety of the crew.
  • Lead the maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
  • Take charge of substation inspections and maintenance of OMPA lines and substations.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
