About The Position

Glenstone Museum, a world-class contemporary art museum in Potomac, Maryland, is seeking a Line Cook to join its culinary team. The museum integrates art, architecture, and nature, offering visitors a unique experience across 300 acres. Glenstone operates two dining venues, the Café and the Patio, which serve seasonal menu items made from locally sourced ingredients. The Café is a sit-down restaurant, and the Patio is an upscale coffee house. This full-time position supports the Café and Patio operations, primarily focusing on lunch service. The culinary artistry at Glenstone is designed to be unhurried, simple yet elegant, and to enhance the visitor's experience. The cuisine emphasizes locally sourced, sensibly raised ingredients.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of full-time experience in a full service, “from-scratch” kitchen, including experience as a line chef, restaurant cook, or prep cook.
  • Strong cultural competence, interpersonal communication, planning and organizational skills.
  • Accuracy and speed in handling emergency situations and providing solutions.
  • Current SERV Safe certification and ability to maintain and enforce certification standards.
  • Flexible schedule including weekend and evening hours.
  • Able to bend, stoop and lift 50 lbs.
  • Reliable transportation to Potomac, MD and a valid driver’s license.
  • COVID-19 vaccination and up to date on all boosters.
  • High level of reliability and punctuality.
  • Allergen awareness training.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct hands-on production in the kitchen for the Museum Café.
  • Supports setting up the kitchen, receiving deliveries, and preparing mis en place (e.g., chopping vegetables, breaking down meat and poultry, preparing sauces) for multiple stations prior to service.
  • Cooks and plates menu items during service.
  • Breaks down and cleans the kitchen at the end of each day.
  • Takes inventory and prepares for the next service.
  • Preps ingredients, prepares sauces, and assembles dishes.
  • Cooks dishes to order, following recipes and ensuring consistent quality and taste.
  • Sets up and maintains station, including stocking supplies, cleaning and sanitizing equipment.
  • Works effectively with other Café staff to ensure smooth operation and timely service.
  • Works with the Chef to optimize resource management, safety, sanitation, and speed of service.
  • Acts as or supports the expediter during service.
  • Upholds culinary standards and regulations, including adherence to established HACCP guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
