The Cook prepares meals according to approved menus and recipes, taking into account the special dietary needs of residents living in the community. In the absence of the Dining Services Director, the cook supervises dietary staff to ensure efficient operation of the kitchen at all times. The role involves preparing and presenting menu items, maintaining a clean work area, reporting equipment issues, monitoring temperatures, ensuring proper food storage, observing safety practices, controlling portion sizes to minimize waste, making menu substitutions with approval, and ensuring the kitchen is ready for meal service. Evening shifts require ensuring the kitchen is clean and ready for the next day. The cook must also take and record food temperatures, attend required meetings, and become familiar with resident dietary needs, likes, and dislikes. Maintaining courtesy and politeness, following confidentiality policies, supervising dietary staff in the absence of supervisors, and assisting in training new employees are also key responsibilities.
