About The Position

At Frederick Living, Cooks prepare meals for community dining rooms, the Bistro, and special functions. This role ensures all food is prepared, plated, and served according to recipes, dietary requirements, and sanitation standards.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent preferred
  • 3+ years cooking experience in a healthcare or food service setting preferred
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively
  • Supervisory experience is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational ability
  • Demonstrates respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence
  • Commitment to person-centered care and excellent customer service

Responsibilities

  • Prepare meals and accompaniments following recipes and preparation sheets for dining room service, healthcare center, Bistro, and special events
  • Work varied shifts preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner, soups, and sauces
  • Operate Bistro stations including grill, fryer, deli, and pizza
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of food preparation and handling techniques
  • Follow safety and sanitation rules and practices
  • Work independently with proper guidance
  • Consult with the Chef or Manager on unusual problems and take appropriate action
  • Perform hot food preparation, including accompaniments and garnishes
  • Perform advance preparation as needed
  • Ensure plated food is visually appealing and meets recipe standards
  • Complete food temperature checks and taste all prepared items
  • Record preparation details and store food items properly at the end of service
  • Clean work areas and kitchen equipment used in food preparation
  • Follow proper procedures for lifting, bending, and general kitchen safety
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fire safety procedures
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth kitchen operations
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and neat environment for residents, staff, and self
  • Follow the organization’s code of conduct
  • Perform other duties as assigned
