About The Position

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is looking for an experienced engineer to join the Exterior Lighting Team of the Exterior Engineering Design Department. This role involves designing, developing, and releasing exterior and interior lamps for Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis NA production vehicles. The engineer will also focus on improving lighting from cost/mass, performance, and quality perspectives, and support the development of lighting-related parts from styling concept to mass production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related discipline
  • 5+ years of professional experience in developing exterior and/or interior lighting components
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., CATIA V6, NX, Solidworks, etc.)
  • Knowledge of U.S. automotive lighting regulations (i.e., FMVSS 108)
  • Knowledge of design, manufacturing, and assembly processes concerning lamp assemblies
  • Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record

Nice To Haves

  • CATIA V5 experience is highly preferred, but not required
  • Understanding of ECE and/or Canadian lighting regulations (i.e., CMVSS) is beneficial
  • Familiarity with IIHS headlamp testing and/or headlamp aiming is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and release exterior and interior lamps for Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis NA production vehicles
  • Develop innovative solutions to improve lighting from cost/mass, performance, and quality perspectives
  • Support the development of lighting-related parts from styling concept to mass production
  • Support the development of concept sections and surfaces
  • Work with suppliers and styling and surrounding part engineers to develop best designs
  • Develop and release BOM for responsible parts
  • Lead resolution of proto and pilot-build issues
  • Support vehicle launches
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers on best practices concerning exterior and interior lighting components development
  • Create and present technical reports to communicate project status and results
  • Assess current design(s) and recommend engineering improvements
  • Travel up to 15% of the time, both domestically and internationally
