About The Position

EwingCole is seeking a motivated Lighting Designer II to join their New York office. This is a senior position within the lighting department, responsible for managing the mentoring, workload, and daily tasks of junior staff at a project level. The role involves performing lighting design and overseeing the documentation for a variety of project types, sizes, and market segments. The ideal candidate has passed the LC exam and completed the required work experience for LC professional licensure, and may also pursue IALD certification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or Architecture
  • 8+ years’ experience
  • Lighting Certified (LC)
  • Proficiency in engineering calculation programs and equipment selection software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic computer analysis skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD/Revit
  • IALD Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Delegate and review lighting calculations completed by less experienced lighting staff to understand lighting requirements and product selections.
  • Teach staff calculation software and methods for completing the calculation process.
  • Lead lighting design on projects of all sizes and multiple market segments and across multiple offices, often leading different team members on overlapping project schedules and phases of design.
  • Review products and evaluate components, design quality of materials, issues of maintenance, product quality and provide recommendations for projects. Review comments/questions of less experienced lighting staff on product selections and characteristics.
  • Design within project budget and establish VE options with an understanding of cost impact (including general mark-ups, labor costs, etc.) for projects. Coordinate with cost estimators and review detailed cost estimates completed during design and bids during construction.
  • Oversee lighting design coordination with architects and other disciplines for RCP coordination, design intent, W/SF for mechanical, etc.
  • Lead lighting presentations with clients and project stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Mentor less experienced lighting design staff with lighting design concepts, project design process, technical expertise, etc.
  • Edit all lighting and lighting control specifications.
  • Complete QA of other projects/lighting design work within the office.
  • Perform in-house and on-site construction administration tasks.
  • Review projects and complete minimal documentation utilizing AutoCad and Revit, and create mark-ups for drafting by others.
  • Attend seminars and continuing education programs and lead continuing education for less experienced staff.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
