About The Position

DLR Group is seeking a Lighting Design Summer Intern to join their Emerging Professional Experience (EPX) Program. This program offers a meaningful introduction to life within an integrated design firm and a strong foundation for a career in the AEC industry. Interns will have opportunities to develop and share their design voice through hands-on project work, mentorship, and learning experiences. They will gain exposure to the people, disciplines, and ideas that shape the built environment and may participate in design discussions, project meetings, site visits, business development efforts, and office activities. The program combines mentorship, project work, and weekly learning sessions covering topics such as design culture, sustainability, design technology, communication, marketing, project management, research, equity, and career development. As a Lighting Design Intern, you will be an important part of the integrated design team, contributing to the design of lighting systems for various buildings. You will work alongside electrical engineers and professionals from architecture, engineering, and interiors, gaining hands-on experience with the design process from concept development through documentation and construction administration. This paid, full-time opportunity runs from May 18 through August 6, 2027, and interns are expected to participate for the entire duration. It's an opportunity to apply classroom learning, build technical and professional skills, and contribute to design solutions that support the brand promise of Elevating the Human Experience through design.

Requirements

  • At least a third-year student at an accredited Lighting Design, Architecture, or Electrical Engineering program, or similar field
  • Excellent communication, technology, and organizational skills
  • Good multitasking skills to easily switch between projects while keeping track of tasks
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • A desire to learn about the architecture/engineering design process
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with drafting programs such as Revit
  • Goal oriented with strong skills in problem solving, creativity, and attention to detail
  • Experience with lighting calculation software such as AGi32, ElumTools, or LightStanza

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with architects and engineers as part of our integrated design process
  • Learn the tools, technology and workflow involved with BIM and how today’s designers deliver successful projects
  • Accompany team members on site visits to project sites to see the real-world results of what you do
  • Assist in developing concepts, calculations, modeling, drawing review, and project execution
  • 2D Drafting and 3D Modeling using Autodesk Revit Software
