About The Position

The light equipment operator primarily supports operations of the Grounds and Cemetery Division of Public Works, but may support all Department divisions as required. The operator operates a variety of equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair of roads, highways, parking lots, and public grounds.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • 1-2 Years of experience
  • Possession of or ability to obtain: A valid state driver’s license with CDL Class B and Air Brakes endorsement with no active violations within the previous three years.
  • Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment and clothing such as hearing protection, eye protection, foot and hand protection, and respiratory protection.

Nice To Haves

  • Hoisting license 2B preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates all Town vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs simple maintenance on equipment, including checking all fluid and oil levels, greasing all fittings, checking air pressure in tires, and checking all lights and safety equipment on each vehicle.
  • Report any major problem encountered while inspecting or driving any Town vehicle.
  • Perform laborer’s duties to complete all Public Works related tasks assigned, including road repair, drainage installation and repair, landscaping, repairing plows, lifting, and carrying objects, and basic carpentry work.
  • Assist mechanics in repairing Town Equipment as needed.
  • Operate equipment in plowing snow, sanding operations and ice removal.
  • Participate in the on-call emergency listing.
  • Participate in bulk-item and composting programs.
