About The Position
The light equipment operator primarily supports operations of the Grounds and Cemetery Division of Public Works, but may support all Department divisions as required. The operator operates a variety of equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair of roads, highways, parking lots, and public grounds.
Requirements
- High School diploma or G.E.D. required
- 1-2 Years of experience
- Possession of or ability to obtain: A valid state driver’s license with CDL Class B and Air Brakes endorsement with no active violations within the previous three years.
- Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment and clothing such as hearing protection, eye protection, foot and hand protection, and respiratory protection.
Nice To Haves
- Hoisting license 2B preferred.
Responsibilities
- Operates all Town vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs simple maintenance on equipment, including checking all fluid and oil levels, greasing all fittings, checking air pressure in tires, and checking all lights and safety equipment on each vehicle.
- Report any major problem encountered while inspecting or driving any Town vehicle.
- Perform laborer’s duties to complete all Public Works related tasks assigned, including road repair, drainage installation and repair, landscaping, repairing plows, lifting, and carrying objects, and basic carpentry work.
- Assist mechanics in repairing Town Equipment as needed.
- Operate equipment in plowing snow, sanding operations and ice removal.
- Participate in the on-call emergency listing.
- Participate in bulk-item and composting programs.
