About The Position

Sugarloaf is looking for a Lift Maintenance Assistant Manager to help lead the team responsible for keeping our lift systems safe, compliant, and running throughout our seasons. This role will work closely with the Lift Maintenance Manager to oversee daily maintenance operations and to supervise our Lift Maintenance team. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with people management, budgeting, and cross-department coordination, and it is well suited to someone who takes pride in both mechanical precision and guest safety. Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or six months to one year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of, or willingness to learn, state and federal environmental standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to delegate responsibility, motivate a team, and lead direct reports toward shared goals.
  • Strong communication skills across all levels of employees, guests, and outside contacts.
  • Familiarity with maintenance management and payroll software, or the ability to learn resort-specific systems quickly.
  • Understanding of corporate and resort-specific policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Help hire, train, motivate, and evaluate staff, ensuring the team has the guidance and resources to meet department goals.
  • Directly supervise Lift Mechanics and the Administrative Assistant, including training on software programs and administrative duties.
  • Build and sustain a strong working culture focused on safety, morale, and a positive attitude toward the company and the public.
  • Ensure lift conditions meet tramway safety orders and that all required maintenance is executed on schedule.
  • Maintain accurate lift maintenance and safety records as required by tramway safety authorities.
  • Stay current on legal, regulatory, and technological developments affecting the industry, including OSHA and state/federal environmental standards.
  • Implement and run a safety program for lift maintenance personnel.
  • Plan and execute major overhaul projects during the off-season and respond to emergency repairs during the ski season.
  • Maintain an adequate stock of lift spare parts to minimize downtime, in partnership with the Lift Maintenance Manager.
  • Log all parts, work orders, and expenses using the resort's maintenance management software, closing out work orders as completed.
  • Accept emergency assignments as needed across mountain operations.
  • Maintain and enhance a guest-focused culture across all areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinate closely with lift operations, other resort departments, and outside lift authorities such as state and insurance inspectors.
  • Maintain schedules in compliance with applicable regulations and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Approve employee time records and manage day-to-day administrative processes, including budgeting and staffing.
