About The Position

Under general supervision, the primary role of the Lifestyle and Fitness Coordinator is to inspire and assist residents in all levels of living to meet their fitness and wellness goals. The Fitness Coordinator aids residents in attaining and maintaining good health through physical activity while also providing a safe environment, encouragement, support and supervision. As a representative and team member of the company, this position is expected to present oneself in a manner that reflects professionalism and ensures resident satisfaction.

Requirements

  • College course work in fitness, kinesiology, exercise science, gerontology, recreation therapy or related field
  • 1 or 2 years of experience, preferably in a geriatric setting; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
  • Two or more years of direct programming experience with older adults.
  • Ability to coordinate movements of fingers and hands in crafts activities, and movements of all extremities in exercises during activities, arms, legs, feet and hands in transporting residents, playing sports, and working on crafts projects, exercising in an exercise class and in driving vans to transport residents
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required for any team member acting as a first responder.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Certifications through ACSM, NSCA, ACE, AFAA or any other relevant certifications desired, but not mandatory for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Interview and evaluate residents regarding physical abilities to determine the most appropriate and person-directed fitness schedule
  • Gather data about participating residents and document fitness progress and growth
  • Develop, with resident involvement, exercise plans for daily activities and everyday wellbeing
  • Educate and motivate residents on self-awareness and physical self-management goals
  • Teach and lead fitness, strength, balance, and aqua (if applicable) classes addressing the physical, mental, and social needs of our residents.
  • Inspect and verify that fitness equipment is operating in optimal conditions and that resident/team members are properly operating the fitness equipment.
