About The Position

Operation Kindness Humane Society is seeking an Lifesaving Care Tech- in Training to join their team at the Operation Kindness HUB in Dallas. This position is responsible for providing care for animals at the Lifesaving Partnerships Hub, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and following proper procedures for disease prevention and sanitation. The role also involves supporting rescue partners with medical appointments and boarding reservations, and assisting the Transport Team with animal transports. As part of the Community Initiatives team, the Lifesaving Care Technician in Training will help support the goal of assisting pets from local shelters and helping pets and their owners in the community. This position is in training to become a Lifesaving Care Technician within a year, with training facilitated by the HUB Manager and Lead Livesaving Care Techs. The training program is divided into three phases: Animal Care and Kennel Tech Training, Basic Medical Care Training, and Intake Evaluation Exam Training.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent or equivalent relevant work experience
  • One year of part-time or full-time work experience
  • Ability to drive company vans/vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Report suspicion of animal abuse or neglect to the Lifesaving Partnerships Hub Manager immediately.
  • Report any unsafe working conditions to the Lifesaving Partnerships Hub Manager immediately.
  • Maintains client, donor, and staff confidentiality at all times.
  • Follow Standard Precautions and other safety regulations at all times.
  • Complete all necessary and requested training in a timely manner in accordance with Operation Kindness policy.
  • Attend staff meetings, as required.
  • Clean and sanitize all animal enclosures and the kennel areas per our Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the day by removing messes in a timely manner.
  • On a weekly rotation, deep clean to sanitize kennel areas top to bottom.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of other spaces in the kennel areas, as well as storage spaces, and common use spaces.
  • Clean, maintain, and remove waste from outside play yards and surrounding areas.
  • Clean, sanitize, and organize outside storage area for portable animal crates.
  • Clean other shelter areas and/or equipment as requested or assigned.
  • Clean and sanitize all food, water bowls, and toys.
  • Wash, fold, and restock laundry.
  • Feed all animals in our care at least twice daily according to the color-coded measuring system.
  • Ensure that all animals always have access to fresh, clean water.
  • Be aware of special/prescription diets, special feeding instructions, and follow the directions laid out for them.
  • Administered necessary medications, twice daily.
  • Report any unusual or sickly behavior of any animal at the Hub exhibits.
  • Assist Lifesaving Care Technician IIs with animal evaluation by providing animal handling and restraint.
  • Walk and exercise all dogs regularly throughout the day.
  • Assist team members with completing daily play-groups per our Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Complete movement of animals from one kennel to another as needed or assigned.
  • Ensure that all animals are properly identified and that all cages and kennels have cage cards.
  • Assist in loading/unloading transport animals.
  • When needed, help the Community Initiatives Outreach team and/or assist with Pet Pantry appointments.
  • When closing for the day, perform security checks, ensuring that all animals are secure, clean, not in stress, and properly bedded down.
  • Make sure necessary doors are closed and lights are out.
  • Additional, relevant tasks as assigned by the Lifesaving Partnerships Hub Manager.
