About The Position

HealthFitness is hiring a part-time Lifeguard for the aquatics team at Harvard Recreation in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The role focuses on monitoring the aquatic facility and helping ensure a safe, friendly environment for members and guests. The position offers pay of $18–$20 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications, and up to 29.5 hours per week. Flexible scheduling is available; applicants with early morning, evening, or weekend availability are preferred. Applicants must complete a basic lifeguard skills assessment, including a 150-yard swim, a two-minute tread, a 50-yard swim, and American Red Cross lifeguarding rescue skills and demonstrations.

Requirements

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.
• Must meet HealthFitness fitness and skill standards.
• Must successfully complete a basic lifeguard skills assessment, including a 150-yard swim, a two-minute tread, a 50-yard swim, and American Red Cross lifeguarding rescue skills and demonstrations.
• Dependable, attentive, and able to work as part of a team.
• Positive attitude and strong people skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patrons of all ages.

Nice To Haves

• Early morning, evening, or weekend availability is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Actively monitor the pool and surrounding aquatic areas to keep swimmers safe.
• Explain and enforce pool rules to maintain a welcoming environment.
• Respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies.
• Perform routine pool chemical testing to help maintain safe water conditions.
• Participate in required staff meetings and training sessions.
• Provide friendly, professional customer service to patrons of all ages.
• Support the aquatics team with additional duties as needed.
