About The Position

Under supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor, the Lifeguard is responsible for
monitoring and ensuring the safety of patrons using the aquatic facilities, as
well as enforcing rules and regulations regarding pool use. Position completes
routine and complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge and/or be
responsible for assisting in the oversight of a critical operation, project or
service.

Requirements

• Equivalent to graduation from high school and/or a technical/vocational program.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard/Lifeguarding
• Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously using both front crawl and breast stroke
• Must be able to swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10-pound object and remove it from the pool within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
• Must attend required Student Recreation Center and USU employee orientation and trainings as well as department specific trainings and meetings
• React calmly and effectively in emergency situations
• Follow routine verbal and written instructions
• Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
• Maintain an appropriate professional appearance
• Make independent decisions and make recommendations
• Ability to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively and work productively without close supervision
• Must possess an ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, holidays, finals weeks, and during academic interim and break periods as needed
• Must arrive at work on time for all scheduled work shifts
• Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment

Nice To Haves

• Advanced First Aid (Title 22, EMR, EMT)

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of members in the facility; act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency
• Enforce rules and regulations regarding pool use
• Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
• Present professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service
• Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
• Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports
• Perform other related duties as assigned
