About The Position

Monitors activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and provide assistance to swimmers by performing essential job duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

Must be 16 years of age or older.
Ability to perform life-saving techniques including in-pool rescues, CPR, AED administration and first aid under stressful conditions.
Well organized and strong ability to work independently as well as with others.
Ability to follow directions and give clear instructions.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to handle negative feedback from patrons.
Ability to portray a professional image of the District.
Possess and maintain American Red Cross lifeguard certification.

Responsibilities

Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe activities and enforces facility rules.
Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid.
Continuously scan assigned areas of responsibility and recognize and respond to emergencies.
Complete incident/accident reports as required.
Maintains a working knowledge of all Park District and aquatic safety rules.
Cleans the pool deck area and locker rooms.
Installs or removes lane lines and starting blocks.
Has the ability to perform the physical and cognitive skills necessary to achieve and maintain a lifeguard and CPR certification as prescribed by the Park District.
Promptly reports any work-related or patron injuries to supervisor.
Uses good safety awareness and judgement; corrects unsafe conditions and/or reports them to supervisor.
Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; respond to requests for service and assistance.
Participate in required district training programs including lifeguard in-service training and certification updates.
Supervise facility rentals.
Provide backup to related positions when possible.
