About The Position

Reporting to a Community Director, the Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions and environment in the pool, on the deck, and surrounding areas. This role creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes resident safety and engagement while following company policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Willing to obtain a YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification; including CRP for Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid Certifications.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental alertness.
  • Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.
  • Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing, or walking for various lengths of time.
  • Ability to communicate verbally across distances in a noisy environment.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Requires a self-motivated, reliable team player who pays close attention to detail and who can demonstrate excellent customer service.
  • Reliable and dependable attendance and punctuality are essential for this position.
  • You must be able to pass a drug, background screen, and motor vehicle record check (if one is required per the position).

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent) Preferred
  • 1-3 years previous lifeguard experience. Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintains constant surveillance of the pool and the pool areas.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all emergency procedures for the pool and pool area.
  • Responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with policies and procedures; provides timely and accurate reports and follow-ups.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies health and safety rules, policies, guidelines for the pool and pool area.
  • Conveys information on programs and schedules to residents.
  • Maintains accurate records required by HMC and state agencies.
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures availability of required equipment.
  • Performs chemical testing as prescribed; takes immediate corrective action as needed. Ensures that all pools are chemically balanced for operations according to codes and standards set by the County Health Department.
  • Conducts pre-opening inspections of all pool, deck, structures, and equipment in the facility, informs appropriate management of all hazards that may endanger guests or employees.
  • Informs supervisor regarding any safety questions or concerns.
