About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The incumbent maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all, and provides a quality experience to the community. As a leader in aquatics safety, skills such as effective communication, relationship building and risk management are essential for this position.

Requirements

  • Possess current nationally recognized Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and O2 certifications; ability to maintain certifications throughout duration of employment
  • Ability to act and follow all Lifeguard Rescue Ready and organizational Risk Management procedures
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Possess strong organizational skills, ability to stay on-task, and maintain Rescue-Ready level of attentiveness
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Responsibilities

  • Be Rescue Ready through appropriate dress, practices and attentiveness as outlined in the YMCA Aquatics Policies and Procedures
  • Exhibit professional demeanor by posture, behavior and attentiveness
  • Ability to answer member service questions or direct them to the appropriate party; build meaningful relationships with members and program participants
  • Engage in behavior conducive to team building with other staff, such as open communication, encouragement, ongoing feedback, and support
  • Enforce pool rules consistently using corrective action when needed
  • Practice preventative lifeguarding and risk management by following YMCA Lifeguarding Best Practices
  • Administer First Aid, CPR, AED, O2, use appropriate emergency procedures and/or rescues when necessary, and provide appropriate care within trained means
  • Maintain cleanliness of pool area according to the Aquatics Policies and Procedures
  • Complete all opening and closing duties thoroughly including securing pool area upon closing
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings, maintain certifications and capacity to respond and attend to emergencies
  • Test pool water and record chemical readings accurately at designated intervals
  • Report incidents/accidents using appropriate documentation and follow-up procedures
  • Report to work ready to assume responsibility a minimum of 10minutes early and in appropriate dress (designated by supervisor)
  • Secure substitutes to cover scheduled shifts in case of an absence and report coverage to supervisor
