About The Position

The PurposeFULL Living Lifeguard is responsible for all aspects of the pool area. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The Lifeguard supervises swimming activities, ensures policies and safety procedures are followed, and suggests programs to enhance the Resident experience. They perform opening and closing procedures for the pool, test chemicals, and record inventories. The role involves actively monitoring Residents and guests, administering first aid, rescuing swimmers in distress, and potentially assisting with Resident programs. Effective communication with the team and timely completion of documentation are essential. The Lifeguard must maintain professional competence, participate in training, and ensure the pool area is clean, safe, and inviting. They also assist with pool equipment, operate the safety lift, and provide caring service.

Requirements

  • Shallow Water Lifeguard Certifications
  • Maintains First Aid, CPR and other needed certifications and trainings
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong customer support skills
  • Complies with protection of health information (HIPAA) safeguards
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with Team Members, Residents, family members, visitors, and the general public
  • Work professionally with people from a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • When working in Resident areas, must be able to communicate effectively in English
  • Attends and participates in in-service educational classes, Healthcare Academy and staff meetings as directed
  • Satisfactory completion of a background investigation is required for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years’ experience in senior living or hospitality setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervises swimming activities and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed
  • Suggests and participates in pool programs to enhance the Resident experience
  • Performs all opening and closing procedures for the pool; tests chemicals and records equipment inventories as required
  • Actively monitors Residents and guests, including small children in the pool as well as on the deck
  • Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary
  • May participate in Resident programs as assigned by Fitness Manager
  • Contacts and works with other departments as needed
  • Ensures Resident care needs are met by providing effective communication to the team
  • Completes written or electronic documentation in a timely manner
  • Contacts the Fitness Manager with any concerns
  • Maintains professional competence to ensure high quality programming
  • Participates in the orientation of new Team Members and new Residents to the pool area
  • Assists in compiling usage data of Residents and Team Members
  • Ensures that the pool area is clean, safe, neat, organized, and inviting
  • Operates the pool vacuum when needed
  • Moves the lane lines per Resident request; as well as to prepare for water classes
  • Assists Residents with pool equipment
  • Operates the safety lift as needed
  • Provides caring, thoughtful and engaging service at all times
  • Meets department uniform, appearance and grooming requirements
  • Complies with all OSHA safety regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety or environment
